Nasolabial folds refer to the lines or folds of skin that appear between the side of the nose and corners of the mouth.
Nasolabial folds develop due to age related changes to our mid face including bone resorption, muscle atrophy, loss of fat in the cheeks and depletion of collagen and elastin. It can also occur as a result of extreme weight loss, smoking and excessive exposure to sun
There is no specific age in which nasolabial folds develop but typically they become more pronounced with increased age.
The injection of dermal filler to replace lost volume in the cheek in combination with injecting dermal filler into the actual nasolabial fold/line produces excellent results for the majority of clients.
