Erectile dysfunction (ED), also known as impotence, is the persistent inability to achieve and maintain an erection of penis during the sexual intercourse. This condition is a common condition and is present in 50% population between 40 to 60 years of age to a varying degree. It is estimated that 300 million men will be affected by year 2025.
Of the 90% men who have an underlying physical cause, the main abnormalities found are:·
Botox® for Erectile Dysfunction (ED) is a minimally invasive procedure that involves injecting 100 Units of Botulinum toxin A (Botox®) into the corpus cavernosum of the penis (two columns of spongy muscles that run through the shaft). Most people believe Botox® can only be used in medical aesthetics procedures such as treatment of wrinkles and excessive sweating (Hyperhidrosis). However, Botox® is an incredibly multi-functional medication used for numerous purposes, including the treatment of ED (erectile dysfunction), improving sexual performance and restoration of vitality in men. The Botox® treatment may potentially help you achieve stronger and more intense erections.
The Botox® procedure alone is unlikely to improve the erect size of the penis. However, Botox® procedure may improve the size of the flaccid penis by improving the blood flow in the flaccid state; this effect, in theory, could help in the recovery of the penis post prostate surgery, as well as in overall penis health. In addition to this, it may lead to overall reduction of a typical penis retraction associated with ‘shrinkage’ which is common in men suffering from excessive shrinkage which can sometimes lead to complete retraction.
It is to be noted this is not the main function of the treatment.
Noticeable improvement can take up to two weeks.
The procedure improved erection for three months in one study in which the men received smaller dose Botox®. The men who were helped by a higher dose of Botox® observed improvement for up to six months. However, the results vary between different individuals when it comes to the longevity of the treatment and research documenting the longevity of results is ongoing. This treatment may not work in every individual.
At Clapham Skin Clinic our doctor will assess your suitability for the Botox® treatment for Erectile Dysfunction.
On the day of your treatment, first your skin is cleansed and local anaesthetic cream is applied for 20-30 minutes before the procedure. An anaesthetic block may be advisable depending on individual’s sensitivity. Following this Botox® is injected into the corpus cavernosa using tiny needle.
You may experience slight discomfort during the procedure.
