WHY SHOULD WE ADDRESS HAND AGEING?

Age related changes become apparent on the hands as they show on the face and neck. Despite this and the fact that our hands are so frequently on show many people neglect their hands. We should look after our hands as use them for a range of activities. 

HOW DO HANDS AGE?

Age related changes in the hands include dehydration and loss of soft tissue and fat resulting in veins and ligaments becoming more prominent. Ageing of the hands can be accelerated by exposure to the sun and environmental irritants such as detergents.

WHAT ARE THE NON-SURGICAL TREATMENT OPTIONS FOR HAND AGEING?

At Clapham Skin Clinic, we use a range of treatments for hand rejuvenation. These include:

• Dermal filler injection to address soft tissue loss as well as to hydrate the skin on the hands. In most of our clients we use Radiesse® and Ellanse® dermal fillers as they yield the best results. Other dermal fillers that can be used include Restylane® and Juvederm® range of fillers.
• Sculptra® and Lanluma® can be used to replace the lost volume and improve the condition of the skin. These works by stimulating collagen synthesis, hence improving volume loss in our hands. 
• Profhilo®, a revolutionary new filler, is an effective means of improving hydration and collagen stimulation, thus resulting in hand rejuvenation.
• Improving hydration of the skin by using Juvederm Volite® and Restylane Booster® 
• Platelet Rich Plasma (commonly referred as’’ Dracula’’ or ‘’Vampire’’ treatment) helps in hand rejuvenation by releasing growth factors that stimulate growth of the skin cells and the underlying soft tissue.
• Chemical peels can be used to treat pigmentation issues and age spots.
• Use of topical skin products and as well as regular application of SPF50 can help improve the appearance of the skin on the hands.
• Combination of the above mentioned treatments can be used to achieve the best results.

WHAT ARE COMMON SIDE EFFECTS OF THE INJECTABLES TREATMENTS USED FOR HAND REJUVENATION?

Commons side effects of the injectable treatments used for hand rejuvenation include bruising and swelling that settles within a few days.
