Belkyra ®, (known as KYBELLA ® in US) is a new, FDA approved, treatment for dissolving sub-mental (under the chin) fat. It eliminates double chin without surgery in most cases. It is also used to improve the definition of the jawline and excessive fat deposits in other body areas.
Belkyra ®/Kybella® consists of a synthetic form of deoxycholic acid, which occurs naturally in our bodies. When injected into sub-mental fat or fatty deposits else where, it destroys the membranes of local fat cells, allowing the fat inside to be released. The released fat is then naturally eliminated from the body.
Belkyra ®/Kybella® is licenced for dissolving sub-mental fat and improving the definition of the jawline to produce a more youthful look. It is an alternative to surgery in client’s wanting to get rid of their double chin. It can also be used to treat fatty deposits else where in the body.
At Clapham Skin Clinic, we aim to keep discomfort to a minimum by using a topical anaesthetic cream and, if required, a local anaesthetic injection prior to the treatment.
Once it becomes available in the UK, DR R Baba will perform the treatment and it will take approximately 15 minutes.
It takes 2- 4 weeks for the fat cells to dissolve and produce the desired effect.
